Dorcus Ministry
We are called by Christ to use our God-given time and talents
Please prayerfully consider joining us and using your special talents to serve God's people!
"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace." -- Peter 4:10
"Do not neglect the gift you have" -- Timothy 4:14
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. ... let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." -- Matthew 5:14-16
Prayer Pockets
Prayer pockets were created and stitched for the 2022 National Day of Prayer and are still being used to remind us to pray continuously. Carry it in your pocket.
Stitched into 4-inch squares, using various cotton fabrics, Prayer Pockets remind us to pray often for our needs and the needs of others. Prayer Pockets could also hold thoughts of blessings received. The card in the pocket reads:
"Lay this softly upon your palm,
Feel God's grace, His love, His calm.
Life your cares and joys in prayer,
Drawing peace from this little square."
Give a Prayer Pocket to a relative, friend, or neighbor and include your own handwritten prayer for that person. Prayer Pockets fit nicely into greeting cards.
"Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving." -- Colossians 4:2
Prayer Cloths
Prayer Cloths were knitted for the 2023 National Day of Prayer and are continually shared with people within our community and through the country. Hold tightly onto the cloth for comfort and peace and then say a prayer for your needs or to give thanksgiving. The cross in the center of the cloth reminds us of what Christ did for us, the ultimate sacrifice to pay for our sins. These cloths may also fit into a greeting card.
"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." -- 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Prayer Shawls
Created and crafted in prayer. Prayer Shawls and lap robes may be selected by anyone -- for anyone -- and given to an individual who is experiencing difficulties of body, mind, or spirit. There are shawls for all ages and in various colors and designs.
Additionally, we knit and crochet blankets for children who are ill and for baptisms. We do not make blankets to be given by you for the birth of a child.
Prayers are said before, during, or after the completion of each shawl, praying that the needs of the person receiving the crafted item are met, even though we don't know what those needs may be.
Each year, shawls, prayer pockets, and prayer cloths are presented to the Lord at His altar and a blessing of these items takes place during the worship service.
Prayer shawls, lap robes, and blankets are the backbone and primary focus of the Dorcus Ministry.
We respectfully request all our creations be selected to honor our Lord and Savior.
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer." -- Romans 12:12
Giving Tree
Donated gifts are wrapped and placed under the tree and are gifted to a charity for distribution to children who may otherwise receive very little or nothing at this time of giving.
The tree will be decorated with various "Chrismons" (a combination of "Christ" and "monogram") crafted in white (the liturgical color for Christmas and symbolizes Christ's purity) with gold accents (symbolizes Christ's majesty and glory).
"It is more blessed to give than to receive." -- Romans 20:35
